This month's Buzznet Storyteller's Assignment is all about the money. *cue Nelly's "Ride Wit Me"*
Money is a funny thing - we don't necessarily need it yet we depend on it to survive. Personally, I hate money yet I hate not having it. As a broke 25 year old with bleak job prospects, I wish I could take money by the throat and fling it off a cliff. But I won't do that...because money buys me music and sometimes music is all I have. Meep.
There's a famous quote, (not sure who it's by) but it really speaks volumes on our society. "Some people are so poor, all they have is money." The cost of living seems to be increasing while the opportunities to find work are dwindling. Money comes into play where and when it shouldn't and more often than not, it takes the place of one's dreams and desires for a happy life.
If I won $1 million dollars, I'd save it and invest it in my future. I'd start my own thing for writers, be my own boss and give every one interested a fair chance - something I never get. Then, of course, I'd splurge in Forever 21 and buy myself a teal Crosley. ;)
Believe it or not, people are still suffering from Hurricane Sandy. I'd make sure my money was going to a reputable place that actually sends aid and help to the victims. This city sickens me sometimes.
Basically, if I were a million dollars richer, nothing would change. I wouldn't change my lifestyle or become a totally different person. I'd just invest it so I can finally get a good night's sleep and stop worrying about the doom that's pending for my future.
We all need a little security. Unfortunately, the paper kind seems to be the one we all crave.
